Bus Driver

About the Role
Reporting to the Community Services Manager, this position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe transportation of students to and from Chief Zzeh Gittlit School. In addition, you will have the opportunity to drive community members to various special activities and events, contributing to the vibrancy and connectivity of our community.
What You Will Do
- Ensure the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school
- Occasionally drive students for related events, following a designated route and schedule.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in good working condition. Report any maintenance issues or concerns promptly.
- Maintain order and discipline on the bus, ensuring students follow safety rules and procedures. Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus as needed.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, school policies, and safety regulations while operating the school bus. Ensure the safety of all passengers by practicing defensive driving techniques.
- Communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, and parents regarding any incidents, delays, or student concerns. Maintain accurate records of attendance and incidents.
- Be prepared to handle emergency situations, including evacuations, medical emergencies, and mechanical breakdowns. Attend required safety training sessions and drills.
- Transport community members to special activities and events as required. Ensure a positive and safe experience for all passengers, enhancing community engagement.
- May be required to operate additional hours outside of school hours at special events
What You Bring
- An in-depth understanding and deep appreciation for Indigenous People and their history, culture, traditions, and languages.
- A strong desire to uplift and support our community.
- Experience working in an Indigenous northern community is an asset.
- Yukon class 4 driver’s license
- Experience transporting people is an asset
- Experience performing basic vehicle maintenance is an asset
- Pre-employment verification including Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Working Conditions
- Position is based in Old Crow, YT.
- Part-time
- Monday through Friday
- 2 hours in the morning to drive the students to school
- 2 hours in the afternoon to drive the students’ home
- Term: From October 26, 2024, To June 2025
