About the Position:
This temporary full-time role, reports to the Executive Director and must be filled by and VGN Citizen who is living in community
The purpose of the is role is to plan, coordinate, advertise and manage a successful General Assembly for Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation to be held at Tl’oo K’at, and is scheduled for August 5 – 7, 2024. Responsibilities include consulting with the Executive Director and Council; developing a work plan and budget; coordinating and attending meetings; arrange for meals, travel, door prizes, preparing briefing notes and reports for delegate binders; and maintaining a filing system.
What we offer:
- Employment as a temporary employee.
- $35.50 per hour, based on 35 hours per week, for 4 – 5 weeks, to a maximum earnings of $6000.00 for the term.
What You Will Do:
Site Coordination (with support from VGFN staff):
- Advance Site Preparation: Coordinate site cleanup, including brush clearing and washroom preparation.
- First Aid: Arrange a first aid station and identify first aid attendants for each day.
- Kids Activities: Organize activities and/or sitters for children.
- Site Cleanup: Manage the cleanup of the site after the event.
Meals Coordination:
- Meal Kits: Order plate, bowl, cutlery, and cup sets for attendees.
- Meals in Old Crow (August 5-7): Coordinate cooks, menus, and food orders for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for three days at Tl’oo Kat. Ensure availability of coffee, tea, and water throughout.
- Meals in Whitehorse (August 5-7): Arrange lunch, dinner, coffee, and tea each day at the Whitehorse Office.
Travel Coordination:
- Boats (August 4-8): Organize boats for morning, evening, and potential mid-day runs each day. Coordinate boats for supply runs in advance and cleanup runs afterward.
- Travel and Accommodation: Manage travel arrangements for invited presenters, auditors, GA Chair, technical support, staff, and consultants.
Door Prizes:
- Donations: Seek donations from partners.
- Prize Coordination: Organize and distribute door prizes throughout the event.
Advertising:
- Information Sharing: Coordinate the dissemination of information about the General Assembly through posters, social media, and other channels.
Meeting Support:
- Agenda Development: Assist in developing the meeting agenda.
- Coordination with Gunta: Support coordination with Gunta, including tracking attendees.
- Minute Taking: Secure a minute taker.
- Printing Materials: Print required materials (excluding the General Assembly Report).
What you bring:
- Extensive experience in organizing and coordinating large special events.
- Training and experience in project management, is an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of Yukon First Nation Government Systems.
- Solid understanding of VGFN, social structure, traditions, language, and cultural values.
- Experience in coordinating activities.
- Strong administrative skills, including note-taking and computer proficiency.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Management Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage stress and work flexible hours.
- Proficiency in liaising with outside agencies on behalf of the Vuntut Gwitchin Council.
- Expertise managing, leading and coordinating teams of employees and contractors.

Reporting to the Director, the position leads a variety of initiatives for K-12 and for VuntutGwitchin students attending post-secondary institutions to ensure we are meeting educationalobjectives. It further supports cultural knowledge and integration into student learning throughland-based initiatives and in-school supports.

About the Position:
The Mechanic performs preventative and on-demand maintenance and minor repairs on the Vuntut Gwitchin Government vehicle asset pool (e.g., trucks, snowmachines, boats, quads) and maintains a relevant inventory of parts and materials. The person in this position also provides on-the-job mentorship and direction to develop other members of the Community Services team.
Desired Qualifications:
- Completion of a mechanic program is an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles as well as diagnostic systems and methods.
- Experience in auto maintenance and repairs.
- Experience maintaining a relevant equipment and material inventory.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices.

About the Position:
The Policy and Program Analyst leads the development, coordination and evaluation of assigned work projects as directed by VGG strategic objectives. The person in this position supports the Executive Office and departments by providing critical policy analysis and advice on diverse topics to inform decision making.
The Policy and Program Analyst also carries out research, reviews program goals, revises or develops new program models, and develops and implements policy and legislation for the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. Emphasis is on frontline program delivery such as health and wellness, housing, and education policies.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, first nations governance, or humanities/social science, or the equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Experience in policy analysis, policy and program development and implementation; in a public sector setting is preferred.
- Project management experience to lead, analyze and evaluate assigned projects.
- Experience in the health care field and/or emergency management is an asset.
- Skilled at conducting research (qualitative and quantitative) and writing options papers, policy documents, and recommendation documents.
- Flexibility to respond to a dynamic community and work environment.

The Property Maintainer performs preventative and on-demand maintenance, minor repairs, and upgrades on existing Vuntut Gwitchin Government building structures and components, as well as on systems and equipment. The Septic Truck Operator is responsible for driving the vacuum truck and managing the loading and unloading of septic tanks in the community. The Septic Truck Operator also provides coverage to operate other equipment and perform other tasks, as needed.

The Water Truck Driver is responsible for driving the water truck, loading and delivering water to community customers as per the schedule. The person in this position is responsible for adhering to safe water delivery protocols. The Water Truck Driver also provides coverage to operate other equipment and perform other tasks, as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Class 5 license with air brake endorsement
- EOCP Certification (Bulk Water Delivery Course) and follow legislated safe water delivery protocols
- Adaptable to respond to call outs in emergency situations

The Lands Manager manages programs and projects to assure the protection and sustainability of land and natural resources for Vuntut Gwitchin settlement lands and traditional territory. It collaborates to develop land related legislation, gather information, monitor land use activities, and conduct meaningful outreach to Citizens and the public. The Lands Manager’s activities have a long-lasting impact on the stewardship of Vuntut Gwitchin natural resources.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural or renewable resource management, land management, environmental studies, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Considerable experience managing conservation or natural resource programs, including strategic planning and evaluation; in an indigenous community is an asset.
- Experience leading and managing teams.
- Experience building partnerships with stakeholders and external contacts to promote and protect resources.
- Financial management experience, including budgeting, and administering federal/territorial funding
- programs.
- Knowledge of resource management, and ecological sustainability principles and practices to lead inspections, surveys, and projects.
- Ability to apply knowledge of legislation, trends, practices and research to land use planning, environmental sustainability, and economic development.

Desired Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in finance, accounting, or related field.
